[caret-users] anatomical question

Hi All,

When mapping fMRI data onto brain surfaces, I noticed that the signal is usually very poor in for the ventral temporal region of the brain. I have reason to believe the distortion is caused by the pocket marked by the cross in "anatomical.png".

Could anyone tell me what this part of the head this is called and if it is filled with CSF or air? To get a sense of the distortion it causes, you can look at the two "zoomed" images attached.

Thanks!
An Vu
