Hi Akiko,
You're right: caret_distribution.v5.51.Linux.zip has an older version
of caret_command that doesn't support that feature. Instead, it has
caret_metric, which gives the attached output when called with the
-help-cs flag.
To me, it seems like eons ago when John folded those satellite command
line utilities (caret_map_fmri, caret_metric, and caret_file_convert)
into caret_command.
The snapshots provide updated executables for the GUI Caret, but
caret_command snapshots are a bit trickier to find. I see some in John
Harwell's ftp directory
(http://brainvis.wustl.edu/pub/john/simon/caret_command_exe_linux.zip
login pub ; password download), but they are all older than my
caret_command, which is not even 30 minutes old.
What platform are you using?

I'm assuming I should use "caret_command -metric-clustering" since within Caret window, smoothing is under Attributes > Metric > Clustering and Smoothing. I can't get help information on this command "caret_command -metric-clustering" (ERROR: Unrecognized operation: -metric-clustering). I can get help info on other commands no problem, like "caret_command -metric-or-shape-stat-one-sample-t-test". I think we have the latest version of Caret (v5.51). So, my questions are..
